Sclerotherapy: Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for treating varicose veins of lower extremities. It is the practice of injecting enlarged and cosmetically undesirable veins with sclerosants in order to make them disappear. Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment both for larger varicose veins and small “spider” veins. Sclerosants work by irritating the cells lining the inside veins. And through this the veins loose their integrity and collapse and become dysfunctional. The body, then, absorbs the dysfunctional varicose or spider veins.
